What is a gift card balance?

A gift card balance is the dollar amount remaining on a prepaid card. When the card is purchased, it is loaded with a specific value (for example, $25, $50, or $100). Each time the card is used, the purchase amount is subtracted from the balance. Checking your balance before you shop helps avoid declined transactions at the register and lets you plan how much you can spend.
